Taking back vehicles and battery recycling in Germany

Great Wall Motor Deutschland GmbH (“GWMD”) imports long-lived, safe vehicles from its parent company Great Wall Motor Company Ltd. and vehicles which are suitable for recycling. Like all distributing companies for vehicles in Germany, GWMD is already obligated (according to Sec. 3 Para. 5 Sentence 2 of the End-of-Life Vehicle Ordinance) to offer all last owners of vehicles a free take back of their vehicles according to the End-of-Life Vehicle Ordinance at the start of the vehicle sales and to inform them of this possibility in publications and the Internet.

The take back by a recognized and certified disassembly operation also guarantees the receipt of a certificate of destruction (according to Sec. 4 Para 2 of the End-of-Life Vehicle Ordinance). Vehicles can only be deregistered with this evidence.

Commissioned third party to fulfill the legal obligations

GWMD has closed a multi-year contract valid Germany-wide with a certified take back and disassembly operation for end-of-life vehicles. This commissioned third party guarantees free take back for the last owner of end-of-life vehicles within three working days and provides the certificate of destruction without delay. The take back can be initiated by the last owner as well as an GWMD commissioned partner and take back location (for example an official service and workshop partner).

Disposal of high voltage batteries and vehicles involved in an accident

It is also possible via the contact to register vehicles involved in an accident, fire damaged vehicles or also high voltage batteries from GWM vehicles German-wide for collection and for recycling. As far as GWMD does not bear the costs incurred insofar, unified conditions in line with the market are agreed with the commissioned third party.

Reporting according to the legal requirements

The third party commissioned by GWMD is additionally responsible for the legally required and annual reporting, as well as for the taken back and recycled high voltage batteries and fulfilling the legally defined recycling rates for end-of-life vehicles. These are published on this homepage starting in 2022.

Reuse and further use

GWMD and its partner jointly ensure that end-of-life vehicles and vehicles involved in an accident are not only recycled as much as possible and disposed of in requirement with the law. The conditions for disassembly, processing, and further use of disassembled vehicle components as well as the use of used and tested high voltage battery modules for so-called 2nd life applications are jointly made. GWMD thus takes over responsibility beyond the legal framework for its products to protect our environment and conserve our resources.
